France: Off-Duty Police May Now Carry Concealed Weapons

Published April 7, 2021 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Filming / Photographing Police, Freedom of Speech

France Article 25 Bans Media and Public from Photographing Police

On March 18, 2021, the French Senate passed Article 25, a ‘security measure’ allowing off-duty police officers to concealed carry of their police-issue firearms in public. Article 25 also states that police who carry may not be refused access to museums, cinemas, shopping centers and schools - places France deems 'open to the public.' Denis Jacob, Secretary-General of … [Read more...]

Constable Paul Zarafonitis, Photographer Michael Farkas and Police Brutality

Published March 17, 2020 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Filming / Photographing Police, Police, Police Brutality

Constable Paul Zarafonitis Photographer Michael Farkas

In Canada it is legal to film police while they perform their duties in public. Unfortunately, too many police officers believe the opposite and violate our rights, often with violent consequences to the photographer. Michael Farkas is one man who paid a high price for photographing police. That price came in the form of a brutal beating at the hands of Niagara Regional … [Read more...]

Rapper J Wildd and the Edmonton City Police Service

Published May 25, 2013 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Filming / Photographing Police, Police Misconduct

Rapper J Wildd contacted me the other day.  He's having some trouble with the Edmonton City Police and wanted my input on a video he recorded of his latest interaction with Edmonton's finest. Now I'm no fan of Rap, but I am a fan of some of the artists in the field, having met and worked with some of the biggest names in the business.  With a notable exception who will … [Read more...]

Corey Maygard: Harassed by Edmonton Police for the “crime” of videotaping them on a public street

Published August 19, 2012 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Abuse of Police Authority, Filming / Photographing Police, Police, Police Brutality, Police Misconduct, RCMP Hall of Shame

Corey Maygard was on the street on Friday, August 10, 2012 and saw what he thought were Edmonton Police Service constables physically abusing a man.  He pulled out his iPhone and started recording what he witnessed. One of the constables came over and demanded that Corey stop recording them.  Fine.  The constable can make any demand he likes.  That doesn’t mean anyone has to … [Read more...]

Charles LeBlanc: Crackpot blogger or Concerned Citizen being harassed by police?

Published January 22, 2012 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Abuse of Police Authority, Filming / Photographing Police, Freedom of Speech

This past Thursday morning, January 19th, Charles LeBlanc had eight members of the Fredericton City Police show up at his low-rent apartment.  They arrested him and seized his computer equipment, but they refused to charge him with any crime. On the surface, it doesn’t look like much.  Just some guy on welfare getting busted by police.  He obviously had it coming for some … [Read more...]

No more police charges in Adam Nobody case says Ontario Special Investigations Unit

Published July 19, 2011 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Abuse of Police Authority, Filming / Photographing Police, Police Brutality

I'm shocked. Utterly shocked. Yeah, like the whole world didn't see this coming.  Despite having video footage and a ton of other information, no one is able to identify any of the cops that swarmed and beat the crap out of Adam Nobody during last year's G20 riots. Is it just me, or are you disgusted with both the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Special … [Read more...]

Emily Good: Arrested for standing on her own property and filming police

Published June 25, 2011 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Abuse of Police Authority, Filming / Photographing Police, Police Misconduct

Stand on your own property, videotape police doing a traffic stop and get arrested. As utterly bizarre as it sounds, that's exactly what happened to Emily Good on the evening of May 12th, 2011. Police had pulled over someone right in front of her home.  She stepped out onto her front lawn and began recording the police officers' actions. Saying "I don't feel safe with … [Read more...]

Film police killing a man, get a policeman’s weapon stuck in your face

Published June 15, 2011 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Abuse of Police Authority, Courts, Filming / Photographing Police, Police Brutality, Police Misconduct

It's a darn good thing America isn't a Police State.  Can you imagine what police would be like if it was?  I'm speaking specifically about Miami police unloading probably half a dozen service pistols into one man, and as soon as he's dead they turn their weapons on anyone watching this all go down. Anyone with a cell phone is threatened, has their cell phone taken, smashed … [Read more...]

What Happened to Constable Babak Andalib-Goortani?

Published February 14, 2011 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Filming / Photographing Police, Police Brutality, Police Misconduct

What Happened to Constable Babak Andalib-Goortani?

What Happened to Constable Babak Andalib-Goortani? That question is one I feel compelled to ask because something seems to have changed in Constable Andalib-Goortani, and not for the better. It's been reported in the Toronto Sun that in June 2008 this man put his own life at considerable risk in order to save someone he didn't even know. The Toronto Sun article … [Read more...]
