Alain Gamache of Timmins, Ontario, is one in a long line of “poster-criminal” who highlight everything that’s wrong with Canada’s broken Firearm Prohibition Order System.

What is equally surprising is that as far as I can tell no police force has published a photograph of this career criminal.

In 2016, Alain Gamache and two fellow criminals were arrested and charged with the theft of over $100,000 in equipment from On-Site Welding Shop.

Some time prior to December 2020, Alain Gamache was prohibited from possessing weapons of any kind. There is no record of a conviction on CANLII.org but it’s possible that prohibition order stemmed from his conviction for this 2016 series of crimes..

On December 17, 2020, Alain Gamache is arrested and charged with 1 count of possession of a firearm contrary to a Firearm Prohibition Order and a host of other weapons and drug-trafficking offences. Police seized a total of $15,000 in cash and drugs from Gamache’s residence, as well as a .410 shotgun, a sawed-off .410 shotgun, a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, a pellet handgun, a pellet rifle and a replica air gun.

Some time after this arrest, Alain Gamache was released on bail and less than three months later he was arrested again.

On March 12, 2021, Alain Gamache was arrested and charged with 8 counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a Firearm Prohibition Order, 12 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking after police seized 261 methamphetamine tablets, 48 PMS-2 hydromorphone pills, 30 morphine pills, 45 Xanax pills, 7.1 grams of cocaine, 7.1 grams of cocaine and 13.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Some time after this arrest, Alain Gamache was again released on bail and, to nobody’s surprise but the judge who released this career criminal from custody, Gamache was once again sought for violating his series of Firearm Prohibition Orders.

On July 26, 2021, another arrest warrant was issued for Alain Gamache. That warrant included 4 counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a Firearm Prohibition Order, 5 counts of fail to comply with release order, Possession of a controlled substance and Traffic in a controlled substance.

I am unable to find any news or police reports stating Gamache was arrested for his latest string of crimes.

Alain Gamache epitomizes the revolving door justice system so many front-line police officers complain about. These officers do their job, get the violent criminal off the streets only to see them released days later to carry on their life of crime.

Will Liberal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino do what Bill Blair refused to do, and fix Canada’s broken Firearm prohibition Order system?

So far, all indications are that Marco Mendicino is completely fine with abdicating his responsibility to keep Canadians safe from career criminals like Alain Gamache.

I supposed we shouldn’t set our expectations too high in this regard. This government is far more concerned about legal protestors in Ottawa than career criminals who put all Canadians at risk.
