A 6-week investigation involving 11 different agencies, specialised enforcement units and police detachments resulted in the arrest of three people for weapons trafficking offences, one of whom was already subject to a Firearms Prohibition Order from his past offences.
Big surprise.
David Jason Masyk, Jason Paul Lafferty, and Jennifer Lynn McCagherty all face charges for firearms and firearms trafficking offences.
Jason Paul Lafferty was charged with a total of 25 criminal offences, including four counts of firearms possession contrary to a Firearms Prohibition Order imposed for a past criminal offence.
David Jason Masyk was charged with 10 criminal offences, including three counts of weapons trafficking and four counts of weapons possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Jennifer Lynn McCagherty was charged with 19 criminal offences, including 10 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Jennifer McCagherty and David Masyk were both released from custody pending a court hearing scheduled for March 17, 2021. It is unknown if either actually showed up for their court hearing.
Jason Paul Lafferty was held in custody.
These repeat offenders were arrested in possession of ten firearms, many of which were loaded and had their serial numbers defaced according to the RCMP.
One of those firearms was a loaded .22 calibre Glock pistol.
Interestingly, the RCMP press release said Blackfalds RCMP anticipated seizing two more pistols from an unidentified Calgary business.
The investigation into the source of these firearms is ongoing.
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair and Justice Minister David Lametti:
Canada’s Firearm Prohibition Order system is broken
When will you introduce legislation to track, trace and check on violent criminals with Firearm Possession Orders?
Jason Paul Lafferty is another example of how Canada’s Firearm Prohibition Order system is broken and must be fixed.
Common sense dictates our scarce police resources should be devoted to those individuals who pose the greatest risk to public safety, yet these are the people Canada’s legislators and police totally ignore.
People with a history of violent offences are a proven danger to public safety, yet these are the people our government refuses to check on or track.
- No police agency in Canada tracks individuals with Firearm Prohibition Orders registered against them.
- There is no legal requirement for police to track individuals with Firearm Prohibition Orders registered against them or routinely check on them to ensure compliance.
- There is no legal requirement for individuals with Firearm Prohibition Orders to notify police when they move to a new residence. Police have no idea where these people are.

If you, like me, want to see violent criminal offenders tracked and checked on to ensure they are abiding by all of their conditions of release, including Firearm Prohibition Orders, please write Justice Minister David Lametti and Public Safety Minister Bill Blair and demand they introduce legislation to implement these reforms immediately.

CANADIANS would be much safer if we could just BAN Liberals. They are a dangerous lot, they work together in unison to disarm and kill the maximum amount of Canadians possible. Imagine how many lives would be saved if Canadian women could train, arm themselves, and protect themselves from rape and murder.. Carjacking and home invasion would no longer occur if ALL CANADIANS could lawfully open or concealed carry + castle doctrine+ stand your ground.
