On Monday, January 18, 2020, Press Progress ‘broke’ a story fed to them by a Conservative Party insider that Derek Sloan, one of the contenders in the recent Conservative Party leadership contest, accepted a donation of $131 from a ‘neo-Nazi.’
“Conservative Party of Canada Confirms Conservative MP Derek Sloan Accepted Donation From Neo-Nazi” screamed the headline.
“Mr. O’Toole is outraged that anyone would accept donations from this individual and will be looking into the matter,” cried Cory Hann, the Party’s communications director.
Mr. O’Toole’s outrage aside, it seems pretty clear the new leader of the Conservative Party leader leaked the information and then pounced on the ‘opportunity’ to ‘cleanse the Party’ prior to its upcoming policy convention.
“Derek Sloan’s acceptance of a donation from a well-known white supremacist is far worse than a gross error of judgement or failure of due diligence,” said O’Toole’s official statement.
“Racism is a disease of the soul, repugnant to our core values. It has no place in our country. It has no place in the Conservative Party of Canada. I won’t tolerate it.”
If only that were true.
What Mr. O’Toole won’t tolerate is a former leadership contender remaining inside the Party.
Derek Sloan’s official statement, issued late Monday night, pointed a big bright spotlight on the hypocrisy being used to expel him from the Party.
Sloan’s team examined the Conservative Party voters list and learned:
- Frederick P Fromm applied to be a member of the CPC
- the Conservative Party accepted his application;
- the CPC mailed a leadership ballot to Mr. Fromm;
- Fromm mailed back his ballot and
- the party accepted his ballot for the leadership contest.
Hypocrisy is an ugly color on you, Mr. O’Toole.
Can you walk back this asinine decision?
Of course you can.
Will you?
Only if you possess a shred of the integrity you kept telling us you were made of during the leadership contest.
In other words, I won’t hold my breath.
Karl says
Christopher, I agree in principle with many of your comments. However, for the Conservative Party to form government again they will need to play the game. Part of that game is appealing to the mass of urbanites in Ontario and Quebec, unfortunately. I think that O’Toole gets the point that being true blue is a wonderful way of remaining in Opposition…
A Moore says
I’ll agree. I’ve voted Liberal in the past, but if I don’t see the Conservative party rejecting fairly right-wing ideals, I’m not considering them for my vote. And I’d like to, I wish there was another party to vote for, but not if Sloan was a real contender for leadership. So for all the conservatives out there, know that you don’t win moderate votes by doubling-down on hard conservatism.
Paul Goggan says
I live in Derek Sloan’s riding, I don’t understand why anyone is surprised by Derek accepting a donation from a white supremacist.
The people in my riding made the gross error in judgement electing him.. He is our worse MP yet and would never have gotten re-elected.
So now O’Tool can finally say he did something good for our riding.
Norbert Kausen C.D. says
… no, he CANNOT!
Joe says
The CPC is intent on destroying itself. Shame. Hopefully the actual conservative MPs will band together and kick out the leftists and virtue-signaling dbags.
Christopher, do you know if today’s vote on Derek’s fate will be recorded and public? That should identify the traitors.
Christopher di Armani says
It’s a private caucus vote, as far as I know.
Norbert Kausen C.D. says
EXACTLY!

It looks the “red tories” are back under O”tool”e. The sad saga of the Cons continues, of course it doesn’t help when our beloved mainstream media backed by government handouts and big labour (Unifor and Pres Jerry Dias…u need to do an article on this Trudeau supporting Hoffa wannabe) continues to shoot arrows at anything that tilts to the “right”.
That being said, Trudeau’s bloodthirst for power will result IMO a coalition with jagmeet to defeat any possibility of a Conservative govt which will likely be a minority if they attain power in the next election. As a lifelong supporter of the Cons since the manning days, I cant behind O’toole (no pun intended). Bernier and the PPC is looking more attractive by the day .
Keep up the great work. I enjoy your work.
Norbert Kausen C.D. says
I am seriously looking at Bernier and the PPC myself!
John Doe says
It’s rather disgusting. I have stopped taking calls for donations. We have been betrayed so often it simply makes one become jaded. From a campaigner to a strong skeptic, I believe we are in for a very rough ride ahead.
Norbert Kausen C.D. says
Me too!
Barry Jackson says
I’ve allowed my CPC membership to expire. Now I proudly support Maxime Bernier, the only genuine (small-c) conservative politician at the federal leadership level. Canada has never had a real conservative government and never will as long as phonies like O’Toole remain anatomically challenged: no spine, no balls.
Lynn Cournoyer says
O’Toole is determined to expel any true blue member that stands in his red tory way. He stopped Jim Karahalios from getting on the leadership ballet and is now after Sloan. I have been a Conservative for too many years. The party is successfully dividing its members by continually acting like Liberals. The only good thing O’Toole can do for the CPC is to resign. He is really turning red. Max is looking better all the time. I see a Liberal government again. We are doomed to live under the Liberals once again.
Brian says
There now needs to be a full audit of all donations made to Otoole , to make sure their are no issues .
Didn’t he court Sloane supporters for secondary votes during the leadership race .
Looks like the CPC is gearing up to lose another election
Christopher di Armani says
Brian, if you want to search through Erin O’Toole’s list of campaign contributors it’s relatively easy to do as Elections Canada, through the Registered Party Quarterly Financial Returns, lists every contributor to a political party and therefore to each candidate.
Go to https://www.elections.ca/WPAPPS/WPF/EN/Home/Index
Then selection ‘Registered Parties’, then ‘Quarterly Financial Returns’, then ‘2020 to present’ and click the search button.
On the next screen select ‘Conservative Party of Canada’ and ‘2020’ then click ‘Find Parties’.
Then select all registered parties (you should see three quarterly returns) and click ‘Search Selected’ at the bottom of the screen.
In the Search Criteria box, click on the drop-down for ‘Return Part’ and select
‘2b – Statement of Directed Contributions Received’ and click ‘Go’.
There is a ‘Download’ link and button just below the Go button. Click that to download a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file which you can open in Excel and sort so all Erin O’Toole’s donors are grouped together.
If you find anything interesting, please let me know!

The current conservatives need to dispel any semblance to Trump ideology and distance themselves from MAGA type Canadian parallels rhetoric’s. This was a post-Capitol Hill trashing conversation and Inauguration side point commentary related to future Canadian relations. There refences made alluding to Sloan and O’Toole.
We don’t have to polish Biden’s shoes, just walk alongside him and go lock-step-tough on Chinese policies and recognize the writing on the wall per Climatic issues.
I know many in America do not like Biden, however as I often fruitlessly made clear to a Liberal [ex]friend of mine about his dumbass anti-outdoors prejudices… this is Canada, not USA,
Conservative leadership campaign made a gross error by not securing a fresh new female Toronto based contestant into the top role. That being Leslyn Lewis, I am sure she could have revitalized voter interests and get the electorate past the dismal 62% turnout, and capture the Toronto and possibly Quebec base.
Conservatives squandered a historic opportunity… to stem the festering wounds and reacquire media’s interests they could still showcase L. Lewis as the contender for MP-ship and as 2nd in command or Public Safety Minister in waiting, should Conservatives acquire power next time around.
Or continue scraping the walls of the lower level for a footing.
Lynn Cournoyer says
I agree that L. Lewis would be a breath of fresh air. I voted for her. I then found out that O’Toole might have bought her off because she was gaining popularity. Do not know for sure if this is true.
Christopher di Armani says
At a minimum, Lynn, he rigged the nomination contest so she would not be challenged. See ‘Haldimand—Norfolk Nomination: Another Unforced Error by the Conservative Party of Canada?“
Colin Murphy says
I look forward to my next donation seeking phone call from the CPC when I will as politely as possible tell the caller what I think of red Tory O’Toole.
O’Toole really is a tool.
Arie Intveld says
I’m very dubious that this has to do with ousting racists or leadership contenders from the CPC. Derek Sloan is on public record as being vehemently opposed to human experimentation (aka untested DNA-altering cocktails misrepresented as “vaccines”) and violation of the Nuremberg Code.
Politicians from ALL parties (yes, even Maxime Bernier and the PPC) have been pursued relentlessly by Big Pharma lobbyists. Erin O’Toole and Michelle Rempel-Garner are no exceptions. CPC members need to hold O’Toole’s feet to the fire regarding CPC discussions/agreements with Gates-funded GAVI Vaccine Alliance and Crestview Strategy. Check out this:

BTW, why are so many Canadians and MSM perfectly fine with pedophiles and human traffickers making donations to both the Liberal Party and the Trudeau Foundation?
Russell says
There is a very bad “smell” starting to emanate from the CPC. Please note that this is just “hearsay’ and comments made by the media.
i do present some facts;
I do believe when Justin Trudeau supports the CPC leader in his actions against Mr. Sloan, there is a problem in the CPC.
I believe when Justin Trudeau does nothing to save the Keystone pipeline in Alberta, and the CPC does nothing, there is a major problem in the CPC.
Christopher di Armani says
Agreed on both counts, Russell. There are two great lessons to be learned if the Conservative Party leadership and their communications staff are willing to learn. So far, it appears they are not.
