Just what the RCMP needs – another RCMP constable charged with assaulting a minor, this time in Flin Flon, Manitoba.
On October 31, 2019, a 15-year-old girl was arrested by RCMP Constable David Mitchel Eardley of the Flin Flon RCMP Detachment. The girl sustained unidentified injuries serious enough she was taken to hospital for treatment before being detained.
On April 20, 2020, Manitoba IIU’s investigation found reasonable grounds a criminal offence occurred during the arrest.
“The IIU has conducted a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances of this incident,” the IIU news bulletin said.
On May 15, 2002, Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) recommended Constable David Eardley be charged with assault.
“IIU Civilian Director Sane Tessler is satisfied there are reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred and accordingly has authorized a charge of assault under Section 266 of the Criminal Code.”
Constable Eardley is scheduled to appear in Manitoba Provincial Court in Flin Flon on July 14, 2020.
No details of what happened the night of October 31st are available in the news media beyond what the IIU said in their news release announcing the assault charge.
As more comes to light I’ll revisit this case.
