Detroit Police Chief James Craig must really annoy the moronic police chiefs of places like Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC. Those yahoos insist that guns in the hands of we mere citizens is a terrifying and horrific thought despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.
Chief Craig has first-had experience with an armed citizenry, however. He took over as Chief of Police in Portland, Maine, in 2009 and it didn’t take long for him to change his anti-gun stance for the citizens he now served.
“Coming from California (Craig was on the Los Angeles police force for 28 years), where it takes an act of Congress to get a concealed weapon permit, I got to Maine, where they give out lots of CCWs (carrying concealed weapon permits), and I had a stack of CCW permits I was denying; that was my orientation. I changed my orientation real quick. Maine is one of the safest places in America. Clearly, suspects knew that good Americans were armed.”
Amen Chief Craig! It takes a very brave man to tell the truth about guns in the hands of we mere citizens.
Contrary to the popular but misguided myth that “concealed carry holders will be shooting it out over parking stalls” that simply does not happen.
In every single jurisdiction where concealed carry permits must be issued when a citizen requests one there is no “shooting spree” conducted by CCW holders.
Last year PoliceOne.com did a survey of its active and past police members. Those police men and women overwhelmingly supported guns in the hands of we mere citizens.
As they should.
Law-abiding gun owners are law enforcement’s best friends, not their enemies.
