Only a generation ago young boys toted their .22 rifles to school on their shoulders so they could plink away in the school’s shooting range. Try that today and SWAT teams would descend like a Biblical plague of locusts.
Gone are the days where a boy playing “Cowboys and Indians” is an everyday activity. Today it’s the subject of a human rights complaint.
Our military, those proud and dedicated men and women who lay their lives on the line can only be honoured one day a year. The rest of the time they are shunned like lepers.
The latest example of this absurdity comes from Schall Elementary School in Michigan, where school principal Susan Wright took moronic bureaucratic edicts to an all-new high.
“These are toys that were commonplace in the past,” Wright said. “However, some parents prohibit all guns as toys. In light of that difference, the school offered to replace the soldiers with another item and the soldiers were returned home with the student.”
“Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,” the principal also said. “In the climate of recent events in schools we walk a delicate balance in teaching non-violence in our buildings and trying to ensure a safe, peaceful atmosphere.”
The plastic toy soldiers in question were, get this, sitting atop cupcakes made to celebrate a classmate’s birthday. The plastic toys represented World War II soldiers and were thus deemed “offensive” to a “safe, peaceful atmosphere”.
What I find interesting, and by interesting I mean absurd, is the “respect for opposing opinions” is a mirage, it’s a one-way street.
We must respect opinions that are intolerant, but only when they are politically correct and liberal.
Should a conservative like me express intolerance for institutionalized stupidity such as that imposed on a third-grade student by bureaucrat Susan Wright… well… then it’s me who is the intolerant one, not her.
Did I mention absurd?

yeah, and it wasn’t so long ago to forget that a kid with about $6 could go to a number of stores in TO,the good, and buy a war surplus Brit .303,walk away with it,get on a Toronto bus,and go home, with out anything out of the ordinary happening, verbally or otherwise…today, call in an RG 31,with automatic weapons from all gunports, ready to take down the “terror at hand”…sometimes I really worry not just about where we’re headed with all this unnecessary response by heavily armed law enforcement, obviously, but also, where we’re headed with expectations…if the common denominator out there is that terror,or perceived violence, is expected at every turn of a birthday cake, then just what exactly is the final message delivered to all of our kids…we need to wake up adn demand a different attitude, for fear of our kids being indoctrinated with all of this “correctness”…as it stands now, freedom of thought and expression, but only when I [authorities ] say so…arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…wake the hell up folks…
