Laurence Manzer pleads “Not Guilty” to gun charges
New Brunswick Crown Counsel had a chance to come to its senses and failed miserably. Lawrence Manzer’s trial for possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace will now take place on June 28 & 29, 2011 at the Burton Courthouse.
Personally I think it’s absurd that the Crown is moving forward with this case.
I have to wonder why they feel it is so important to punish the actual victim in this crime, as opposed to the young offenders that caused the whole ruckus in the first place. By ignoring the actual cause of the problem I can see only one motive: “mere citizens” (or is it subjects?) must not do the job of the police. Anyone attempting to do so must be punished.
It sends a message to all the other sheeple… stand up for yourself and we’ll do this to you too.
It’s the wrong message.
They should be congratulating Brian Fox and Lawrence Manzer for how they handled the situation, instead of charging Fox with assault (charge now dropped) and Manzer with a firearms charge.
Anyone wishing to support Mr. Manzer’s defense against this malicious RCMP prosecution can make legal fund donations for his case by sending a check payable to:

We’re working on an online donation system, and will hopefully have that up and running by the end of the week. Katey Montague’s Rights and Freedom Bulletin will also have an update on the case later this week, she tells me.
More on this case shortly…
[…] Update — December 6, 2010: The Crown has decided it is in the public interest to move forward with this case. That’s a joke, not justice. […]
