Australian Police taking Taser Use Lessons from the RCMP?

Published October 18, 2010 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Abuse of Authority, Police Brutality, Police Misconduct

In a particularly horrifying example of police using excessive force, 9 Australian police officers were caught on tape brutally tasering an unarmed man inside a police station. The only upside to this story is that the man on the receiving end didn’t die.

…an unarmed man who refused to undergo a strip search in a Perth police station is heard screaming as he is Tasered eight times while surrounded by nine police officers. He was Tasered another five times off-camera. Police held an internal inquiry after the incident and fined two senior constables for using excessive force.

One viewer on YouTube wrote:

From the state of Western Australia that brought you the jailing an innocent man for 12 years, the jailing of a 15 year old boy for a rape he did not commit, the frying of an indigenous man in the back of a transport van and the list goes on and on and on. ? You think Alabama has problems? Good to see CCTV working for the common man for once.

If it weren’t for video cameras, incidents like this and like the murder of Robert Dziekanski at the hands of four RCMP “officers” would never see the light of day.

Thank God for video cameras.
