As a delegate to the Conservative Party of Canada Convention in Ottawa last week I had an extremely enjoyable time listening to excellent speeches from Jason Kenny, John Baird, Stockwell Day, meeting and speaking briefly with many Members of Parliament and Senators, and attending a presentation by Preston Manning.

Regrettably, the absolute lowest point of the Convention was listening to Prime Minister Harper’s keynote speech.

While over two thousand shouting, cheering, clapping delegates rose in a standing ovation to Mr. Harper’s statement that he would “introduce legislation to scrap the costly and inefficient long-gun registry in the fall”, I sat quietly alone in abject disgust. Mr. Harper made no mention at all of repealing licencing.

I had heard that a motion to strengthen the Firearms Policy had been submitted, but nothing concerning firearms was on any agenda. The impression seemed to be that we should “expect nothing more.”

Fortunately I was able to share a breakfast table with Dr. Gary Mauser the next morning. Dr. Mauser had been talking more in depth with his parliamentary contacts than I, and Dr. Mauser did see some glimmer of hope that not all MP’s had forgotten their promise to abolish all of Bill C-68, not just the ‘long gun registry’.

Later in a brief conversation in our Saskatchewan contingent, Garry Breitkreuz assured me that he “had not given up”.

Conservative Senator and chief fundraiser Irving Gerstein reminded delegates that for over a decade we have given the Conservative our time and our money.

More importantly we responsible firearms owners have given the Conservatives our trust.

Now it is time to given them a piece of our mind.

Write your Member of Parliament TODAY!!

Tell them to abolish all of the Liberals’ Firearms Act and its attendant Criminal Code licencing provisions as promised.
