While governments worldwide focused their attention on ‘COVID counts’ and lockdowns of healthy people in their non-stop fear porn crusade, one number ought to make everyone sit up and take notice.
In Canada, 1,412 people chose to end their lives by medical assistance in dying (MAiD) (18.6% of all MAiD deaths in 2020) because they simply could not face another year of loneliness and isolation forced upon them by uncaring, insensitive and unaccountable government bureaucrats.
This is reprehensible by any measure, yet the Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government continues to search and implement new for ways to expand the legalized killing of the inconvenient and the elderly.

Alex Schadenberg, Executive Director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, explains:
When Canada legalized euthanasia and assisted suicide (MAiD) in June 2016, a section of the legislation required the government to conduct a full five-year review of the legislation, starting in June 2020.
Instead of conducting a full review of the law, the Canadian government decided to expand the euthanasia law and then do a limited review of the law.
On September 11, 2019 the Quebec Superior Court, in the Truchon decision, struck down the requirement that a person be terminally ill to qualify for euthanasia in Canada. In an unprecedented manner, the federal government did not appeal the decision.
Bill C-7 was introduced in February 2020 as the government’s response to the Quebec Superior Court’s Truchon decision. Bill C-7 went much further than what Truchon required. Bill C-7 became law on March 17, 2021.
The Senate amended Bill C-7 to clearly allow euthanasia for people with mental illness and for incompetent people who asked for death by lethal injection in their advanced directive.
The Senate amendments came back to parliament where Justice Minister David Lametti rejected the amendment approving euthanasia for incompetent people who asked for it in their advanced directive but he approved euthanasia for mental illness with the caveat that euthanasia for mental illness be stayed for 24 months to give the government time to develop protocols.
So Justice Minister David Lametti and Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government are fine with mentally ill people being put to death so long as they are killed according to some new government protocol.
While Canadians are, for the most part, free to do as we please for the summer months (Ontario excepted) , the next round of COVID lockdowns are coming, most likely about three days after Trudeau wins a majority in the upcoming election.
He’s already crisscrossing the country with pre-election spending announcements, so the Writ Drop can’t be far behind.
While the Liberals pander for more votes prior to an election nobody wants (except Trudeau and his Liberal Party), another massive death toll by MAiD due to COVID lockdown loneliness is, likewise, not far off.
Only this time the death toll will be far higher.
It’s heartbreaking that our government’s heartlessness forced 1,412 people to choose death simply because they weren’t permitted to see another living family member.
That we’re going to do it again in two or three months pains me more than words can say.
I’m left asking one terrible question.
When, why and how did we become so uncompassionate, so disconnected from our own humanity that we, as a nation, willingly and gleefully kill those who simply can’t imagine suffering through another lonely and isolated COVID lockdown?
It’s a kinder, gentler, more Canadian form of Nazism/communism where we are expected to self-select for termination without the inconvenience to the state of setting up death/re-education camps.
