On October 16, 2018, Marquis Watkins, a “former football phenom”, attempted to smuggle 20 handguns into Canada via the beautiful Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Watkins told border agents he was coming to Canada to take his girlfriend out for dinner. For reasons we’ll probably never know, the fine folks at the Canadian Border Services Agency didn’t buy it.
Even after a search of Watkins’ vehicle revealed nothing, CBSA agents still weren’t satisfied. They brought a detector dog over and that was the end of Watkins’ dinner plans.
Once the dog pointed CBSA agents in the right direction, a more detailed search of Watkins’ vehicle revealed a sealed compartment. Inside that compartment were 20 illegal handguns.
Like most criminals do when caught, Marquis Watkins denied any knowledge of the illegal guns.
Nobody bought his lies.
Marquis Watkins pleaded guilty and, on May 15, 2020, Judge James Ramsay sentenced him to three years in prison.
“The issue of illegal handguns is probably the most pressing criminal problem we’re facing in Canada. They come over from the United States, brought over in small batches by people like the accused,” said Judge Ramsay.
To the fine men and women of Canada Border Services Agency, thank you for your diligence and persistence. You stopped Marquis Watkins from delivering 20 illegal guns into the hands of Toronto’s drug dealers, gang members and other violent criminals.
To Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, if you truly want to stop bad people from obtaining illegal guns (instead of copying the vacuous virtue-signalling of your boss), this is where you must focus your energy.
There should be no such thing as an “illegal gun”. I want a Canada where thousands of guns pour in from the USA and … nothing happens. Because all violent criminals are already in prison or dead. The problem is not smuggled or “illegal” guns. The problem is criminals, those that the socialists love to protect, ensuring an endless supply of dead victims that the govt can use as a way to chip away at people’s rights and freedoms.
So let me understand something, if I take a now prohibited gun to the range I could face jail time and a heavy fine let alone lawyer fees but this guy gets 3 years! Is there something wrong with this picture? This is one of obviously many getting across the border. But hey 1 + billion $s to buy back our stuff will solve all that. The space aliens are probing the wrong cavity.
Trying to inform the Public Safety Minister, B.B.Brain about anything to do with common sense is like shouting at a deaf person who is walking away from you. I have only been a FIREARMS owner for only about 3 years and at 80 years of age it gave me something to look forward to every summer. Now with this covid 19 and a bunch of total MORONS in power with a bunch of separatists propping them up I feel like this entire ( ustabea democratic ) country is not worth paying any attention to anymore.
