Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government keeps telling us how woke they are, how important women’s rights are, yet Maryam Monsef, Trudeau’s Minister of Women and Gender Equality, just slashed funding to programs designed to help abused women trapped in the world of human trafficking.
Megan Walker, executive director of the London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC), said her organization will have to close its federally funded anti-sex-trafficking program.
“This is Canada’s legacy for gender equality,” Monsef proudly proclaimed.
Okay, that’s taken totally out of context, but it fits.
“I’m just devastated for what will and what is happening to trafficked, sexually exploited and prostituted women and girls right now. It’s just really outrageous,” Ms. Walker said.
See? It totally fits.
The anti-sex-trafficking program was initially funded by the previous Conservative government.
Shuttering programs designed to help people is the Liberal way – if the program in question was created or funded by our former Conservative government.
Forget the Trudeau government’s words – they’re not worth the paper those words are printed on – the Trudeau governments actions on funding cuts to programs designed to help at-risk women and girls truly says it all.
The Office of the Minister of Justice and the Office of the Minister of Women and Gender Equality issued a joint statement, according to CTV News.
“While not all programs that have reached their planned end date will be renewed, we are fully committed to protecting Canadians.”
Let me fix Minister Lametti and Minister Monsef’s misleading joint statement.
“While not all programs that have reached their planned end date will be renewed, we are fully committed to protecting Canadians who vote Liberal.”
There. All better.
Now it even explains Western Alienation.
The lame joint statement goes on.
“We are aware of the impact that the sun-setting of this program has had on some organizations, and we are working across government to try and find solutions to enable them to continue their work.”
I’m sure the ministers’ mewling sentiment is great comfort to Megan Walker, the London Abused Women’s Centre and the young women they worked so hard to help. LAWC’s anti-human trafficking program, which helped over 3,100 young women and girls, will now close on May 29th.
“This is Canada’s legacy for gender equality,” Monsef proudly proclaimed.
Yup. Still fits.
