Update 2020-02-10 17:28 hrs : Added donation form for Leslyn Lewis and instructions for returning to her campaign at bottom of page.
I stumbled upon Dr. Leslyn Lewis quite by accident.
The president of my Conservative EDA asked me to write an email to our members. He wanted to give them the opportunity to sign nomination papers for as many candidates as possible.
Why?
So we can have a leadership convention with more than two candidates on stage in June.
I discovered there are a lot of people who want to lead the Conservative Party, including Dr. Leslyn Lewis.
Most of them won’t stand a chance because of the high barrier to entry raised by the Conservative Party. (see Has the Conservative Party Forgotten its Grass-Roots Foundations? for my thoughts on this.)
What I discovered after visiting LeslynLewis.ca was an intelligent, hard-working woman who lives and breathes conservative principles. It’s refreshing.
Ms. Lewis is also the prototypical Canadian immigrant success story. She came here as a small child with her parents. They left everything behind to come to Canada in the hope of giving their children a better life.
They had nothing but willingness and their work ethic to guide them.
Now she’s a lawyer and educator running to lead the Conservative Party into the next federal election. She wants to be the next Prime Minister of Canada.
Hers is a great Canadian story – one I’ll be exploring in greater detail when I interview her for a newspaper article in about 10 days. Stay tuned for more on that.
She is insanely busy, as you can imagine, launching her campaign and putting together all the pieces a legitimate leadership bid requires.
I encourage all Conservative Party members to visit her website and follow her on Twitter and Facebook to learn more about this candidate.
If you believe as I do, we need a leadership convention with more than two men standing on stage, please download Leslyn Lewis’ nomination form, fill it out, sign it, and return it to her. (see the bottom of this page for links for every candidate in the race.)
Leslyn Lewis needs all the help she can get to achieve the signature and province counts required. She also needs donations. The $300,000 entry fee is a very big mountain to climb.
Sadly, the Conservative Party is determined to have a leadership coronation, not a leadership contest.
I’m committed to a leadership contest, not a coronation.
I hope you are too.
What do you think? Is the Party’s high barrier to entry a good or bad thing? Do candidates like Dr. Leslyn Lewis deserve a legitimate shot at leadership is the Party right to try and exclude them?
Let me know in the comments below.

CAVEAT: This is not an endorsement. Since the Party announced their criteria for the contest I’ve pushed to ensure every candidate who wants to be on stage at the Leadership Convention will be. Our Party and our nation deserves to hear from as many quality candidates as possible, not just the ones CPC HQ says we should.
Edward Gullickson says
The last cpc leadership was a joke . WAY TOO MANY IN IT . The party needs to pare down the hopeful , but just how they go about it is up for a discussion . I am not in favor of a $ value to weed out candidates , but would like to see the people chose , by signatures .
I complained so many times about the last race , there was way to many involved and good candidates did not get enough time to get there message out in the debates . The other thing it was way too long a period , people lost interest .
Ed .
Christopher di Armani says
Agreed, Edward. The current financial barrier was imposed to stop all but the most politically connected could stand a chance. As I wrote in my earlier piece about the Conservative Party forgetting its grassroots foundation, CPC HQ wants a McKay coronation. If we’re lucky there will be two people on stage at the Leadership Convention – O’Toole and MacKay. Even Gladu will be hard-pressed to raise $300k by the deadline.
Dave_C says
I wonder…
– What’s her position on civilian firearms ownership?
– What’s her position on the current nonsensical Firearms Act?
– Why the party leader isn’t chosen AFTER the election, by open ballots cast by Conservative MPs?
– What the result might be if every Conservative Party supporter who is fed up with the Establishment Elite committing behind the scenes subterfuge during leadership contests and elections, instead put their time, effort and money behind the Libertarian Party?
Christopher di Armani says
I’ve contacted her directly and offered my assistance to draft her firearms policy. She’s asked her policy folks to contact me and move that ball forward. When more occurs I’ll let you know, but that’s where it stands at the moment. Even without my input and based on what I’ve read from her both directly and on social media, my bet is her policy on guns will be good.
re: Libertarian Party and disaffected Conservative members. In practical terms, the LPC is unelectable, just like PPC. Even if 50% of current CPC members joined and put their full effort behind LPC, it’s a generation before they gain enough traction to become Official Opposition – longer to form government. Speaking solely from a practical position, Canada can’t afford a generation of uninterrupted Liberal destruction.
Andrey Piskunov says
She doesn’t know her own stance on this?! *ROFL* Two points: 1) I don’t get what your hopeful assessment is based upon. 2) Politicians tend to excel in pronouncing one thing but then doing completely opposite.
Christopher di Armani says
That’s not what I said. She has not rolled out her policy yet, so *I* don’t know what it is.
Andrey Piskunov says
Aaah… Gotcha! And good luck!!!
Andrey Piskunov says
Entry fee is most definitely a bad thing. Meaning that one who has that money at a stake better behave by doing what’s he’s supposed to. If he doesn’t have this amount then there always be groups of people ready “to help” in exchange of certain favors (lobbying).
Now to this lady in particular… Looks like obama in a skirt. Basically people “voted for a change” and were screwed up like never before. A woman in power would have more leeway when things go wrong. I’ve seen companies managed by ladies and taken down the drains by them but the thing is that BOTH employees’ and board of director’s trust in them was surprisingly high. If a woman is appointed to do crisis management nobody will say a thing even when most draconian policies are enforced by her.
Also, beware of vaguely sounding words like “compassion”, “courage” and “common sense”; this usually means they will keep pushing status quo agenda. Again, like obama did: he was saying right things but doing the opposite. I wouldn’t hand over my trust to her only to find out later I was screwed again. Common sense differs from one’s perspective: it’s one when you’re homeless and completely different when you’re in top 0.0001% of the population.
Dave says
Unless she is proposing to repeal 90% of laws and fire the associated bureaucrats and cut the associated taxes, she is no better than the BS status quo we have now and have had for the last 50 years.

and of course the disgusting FIREARMS ACT.
Christopher di Armani says
Your list looks like a good start, Dave. The list of government agencies is likewise in need of pruning. Hundreds of them could easily be disbanded as well, with no loss to society.
Dave says
yup you got that right about the agencies (without the laws, the agencies cease to exist). These govt bastards try to justify their existence by each year telling you what more you are not allowed to do, say, or think. The only solution is repeal, repeal, repeal. When are the Conservative Party MPs going to get that?
JettieG says
She was not born here. Isn’t that a qualification for PM or can anyone from anywhere run to lead our country?
Christopher di Armani says
No, I don’t believe it is. Our current Immigration Minister was not born here, nor was the Minister of Virtue Signalling, Maryam Monsef.
Dr Gerry Heymans says
