CBC Backs Down – Guns in Canada 101 Vanishes From the Internet

Published April 13, 2017 by Christopher di Armani Filed Under: Guns

UPDATE #3: TheGunBlog.ca reports the CBC has now re-issued the video on their “Keeping Canada Safe” portal with two text updates and a disclaimer below the video. Not good enough. Keep up the pressure on the CBC to either pull the video completely or redo the segment with accurate information.

UPDATE #2: The CBC pulled it from the other link on the CBC website (http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/892311107727) just reposted the video Guns in Canada 101 to their YouTube channel (April 13, 2017). Write to the CBC Ombudsman again and demand the CBC pull it from all video portals on the internet. If this trash is so error-ridden and filled with misinformation they felt it necessary to pull it from the “Keeping Canada Safe” portal, why are they continuing to spread their misinformation and lies on YouTube?

Here are the links I know of so far:

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R4uJS_kKQk (Published to YouTube on Apr 13, 2017)
  • http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/892311107727 (Dead as of 2pm PST April 13,2017)

UPDATE: Seems I was not quite correct.  Yes, the video is gone from the Keeping Canada Safe portal.  Both the original page and a search of that portal return a “not found” error, but the video is still online through this link.  Perhaps a further complaint needs to be filed so it’s removed from the CBC website completely.

To all those who took the Canadian Shooting Sports Association‘s critique of the factual errors in the CBC video Guns in Canada 101 and combined them with TheGunBlog.ca‘s idea to file a complaint with the CBC Ombudsman Office…

CONGRATULATIONS! You did it. You forced CBC to take their atrocious video offline.

The CSSA critique came out on the morning of April 10.  TheGunBlog.ca posted their supportive article about that critique a few hours later, added their Ombudsman complaint idea to it, and I wrote in support of both pieces and posted it on social media. That message spread like wildfire and, well, the proof is in the pudding, as they say.

The CBC video is gone.

There are those who said it couldn’t be done. They said filing complaints with the CBC Ombudsman was useless, that it wouldn’t accomplish anything because the CBC would just ignore us. Seems the naysayers and the haters were wrong.

The CBC video riddled with errors no longer exists. If you go to the video’s URL http://www.cbc.ca/keepingcanadasafe/features/guns-canada-101 you are greeted with this message:

Sorry, we can’t find the page you requested

How awesome is that.

My congratulations again to the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, TheGunBlog.ca and all those people who read my message and did as TheGunBlog.ca suggested.

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

For two days good men did something and the results are practically instantaneous.  Ain’t that something to be proud of?

There’s a lesson here, and a good one.  We must stand up for ourselves. Nobody else will.  And as we proved in just TWO days, we can make good things happen when we do.

Amen.
