If you hate what a man stands for you will do anything to tear him down. That’s appears to be the rationale for Ashley Csanady’s hit piece on Vice-President Mike Pence in the National Post. In it she decries the fact Mike Pence “never eats alone with a woman other than his wife and that he won’t attend events featuring alcohol without her by his side, either.”

In Csanady’s delusional mind, Pence hides behind religion in order to hide his inherent preclusion for rape culture.

At its core, Pence’s self-imposed ban is rape culture.

Nor is that a label I assign lightly. “Rape culture” is a phrase so overused it’s become almost meaningless, like calling someone a Nazi on the internet. But it has a very clear meaning: the notion, whether conscious or unconscious, that men can’t control themselves around women because “boys will be boys.”

The explicit reasons for Pence’s restriction are religion and family, but the implicit reason is that he must avoid alone-time with women lest his stringent religious moral code fall apart in the presence of a little lipstick and décolletage. That is rape culture.

That is delusional thinking at its very best.

Intentionally or through ignorance, Ashley Csanady claims Mike Pence is of such pathetic moral fiber that merely being in the presence of a woman other than his wife will cause him to break down, lose control and rape the poor woman. She mocks him, calls him sexist and derides him for being a closet rapist who can barely control himself.

Absurd doesn’t even begin to describe her thought process in this article.

I fail to comprehend how Mike Pence’s esteem and respect for his wife, as evidenced by his refusal to put himself into situations where gossip and false claims of his actions could put his marriage at risk, is sexist or a rapist.

If Mike Pence is never alone with a woman other than his wife, no political opportunist or hack journalist can claim he stepped out on his wife.  They cannot assail his marriage or his character. Or so you would think.

It would never occur to a rational person that such a policy exists only to defend against Mike Pence’s inherent inclination to rape the nearest woman. Leave it to ignorant liberal hacks to come up with that notion.

Of course, this could be my own inherent rape culture speaking, since any man acting in defense of his marriage and in honour of his wife can only be an an outdated, sexist misogynist, right?

We humans are sinful creatures, at best. Mike Pence does everything he can to avoid sin or even the appearance of it. In our current liberal utopia that is a crime of the highest order.

When a liberal “journalist” believes that by denigrating a man for protecting his marriage, honouring his wife and avoiding sin, she is taking the virtuous path, well, journalistic integrity sure isn’t what it used to be, is it?
