This is part of my ongoing series on Canadian Mass Murders.
It comes as no surprise to me, nor should it come as one to you, that December 6th is dedicated to hating men when the official Montreal Massacre narrative says all men are responsible for Gamil Gharbi’s actions.
This flies in the face of the facts spelled out by Montreal coroner Teresa Sourour in her report on the murders.
In past years I’ve written about the men who obediently left the room when ordered to do so by the deranged Muslim madman. Not one lifted a finger to stop Gharbi or protect the women who would ultimately fall to his bullets.
If a 17-year-old Boy Scout can take down an armed shooter in a high school classroom in 1998, surely grown men could have taken down Gamil Gharbi in 1989 – but only if they had the backbone of a 15-year-old American Boy Scout, which they clearly did not.
For her part in attempting to talk Gharbi down, Nathalie Provost was shot three times. Miraculously, she survived. Unfortunately, she and others decided all men were to blame for this woman-hater’s crimes.
To this day, she blames guns and legal gun owners because Gharbi had a Firearm Acquisition Certificate (FAC). He purchased his guns and ammunition legally. To these genuinely concerned but deeply misguided people, all gun owners are just “murderers-in-waiting.”
Again, I call bullshit.
The questions Provost and her fellow travelers never ask about the Firearm Acquisition Certificate (FAC) system in place in 1989 are these:
- How could the system supposedly designed to prevent this kind of shooting be such a colossal failure?
- What police agency investigated Gamil Gharbi and failed to discover the myriad clues to his violent nature that every newspaper in the country found with ease?
- Why was nobody ever held responsible for the failure of the FAC system?
Fixing a broken system was never part of their plan.
It was never about holding anyone accountable for the FAC system’s colossal failure, just as it was (and is) never about holding Gharbi accountable for his heinous crimes.
It’s about doing the exact opposite of Marcus Aurelius’ sage advice almost 2,000 years ago.
Punish only he who committed the crime.
No, the annual hate-fest that is December 6th is about punishing everyone except those who committed the crime.
I’ve reproduced the conclusion to Investigating Coroner Teresa Z. Sourour’s report below. You can read the entire document in HTML, PDF or DOC thanks to firearm researcher Dennis Young, then assistant to MP Garry Breitkreuz, now a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Shooting Sports Association.
For those who have never seen the coroner’s report or even heard of it, for that matter, don’t be surprised. It took 15 years to get it translated into English.
Note Ms. Sourour’s comments about firearms.
Gharbi killed himself long before police even entered the building. He was under no threat from anyone when he ended his own life.
As unfortunate as this event was, it was not an exceptional one from the perspective of the emergency services. An armed attack by a single person is, in itself, an event that the SPCUM must deal with on a regular basis.
Nonetheless, we must consider the sixty (60) unused bullets that Marc Lépine left at the scene when he decided to put an end to this terrible episode, although he was in no danger: no police assault was in progress or in any obvious state of preparation. Thank heaven, he decided on his own that enough was enough.
The issue of firearms control has intentionally not been addressed. With the unlimited ammunition and time that Marc Lépine had available to him, he would probably have been able to achieve similar results even with a conventional hunting weapon, which itself is readily accessible. On the other hand, the importance of the questions raised in respect of pre-hospital care and police emergency response are matters that are worthy of our full attention.
The deficiencies identified in relation to the emergency response call for us, in all good conscience, to give them serious thought, not so that we can assign responsibility to anyone in particular, but so that we can take corrective action to ensure that better protection is provided for human life.
Some of the questions stated in the preceding section do not require answers, since the answers are self-evident from the questions. Nonetheless, this does not mean that it is not worth acting on them, even though no formal recommendations are made.
There are numerous other questions, on the other hand, that it would be neither wise nor fair to try to answer without first hearing all of the people involved, particularly since the complexity of some elements means that various experts would have to be heard, and this was not the function of a Coroner’s investigation.

Canada’s annual Man-Hating Festival is well underway, instigated and celebrated by such sharp visionaries and illustrious luminaries as Windy Wendy Cukier and Lying Heidi “I Was There” Rathjen. (Gharbi was never anywhere near her but Heidi Rathjen refuses to let that pesky little truth get in her way!)
The cause of “gun control” will never fade because these allegedly smart women refuse to accept one simple fact: it is human beings who kill each other.
Guns are merely one of many tools used to commit murder.
By refusing to face that fundamental truth “gun control” advocates remove personal responsibility from the equation and effectively reduce our society to one of little children who don’t know right from wrong; children who are transformed into mass murderers simply because a firearm is in the house unless Mommy and the Almighty Nanny State gets rid of the guns.
Absolutely, but that doesn’t stop these people from spinning their yarns to anyone who will listen, usually others with an equal or higher stake in reducing society to irresponsible children who must be “managed“.
Governments love “gun control” for equal and opposite reasons: they hate guns in the hands of “mere citizens” and love control over every aspect of our lives.
Until we teach our children about personal responsibility again and, more importantly, hold murderous criminals accountable for their actions, nothing will change.
Yours in Liberty,
All of us have to look at history to see irrefutable truth that leftists are liars with a destructive anti freedom/anti justice agenda and the first plank on their corrupt platform is gun control and banning. This removes the right and ability of the freeborn man to his first right, the right to security of the person. It also allows absolute tyranny to go unopposed as the LEO’s (legally entitled oppressors) will be the only ones armed and able to with little opposition impose the fiats of the corrupt fascist system.
These radfem whacko cases, tools of the oppressors are light in the head department. Why are they complaining about women being slaughtered? They got their wish didn’t they?
Note that when Gharbi ordered the males out, they all filed obediently out leaving the women to be slaughtered. Isn’t that what the radfems always wanted, wimpy, panty waisted men?
If that situation had occurred before the radfem kool aid was dispensed to society, then I am sure the men of the former era would have rushed Gharbi to save the fairer gender. But it was not to be, the radfems always demanded they were equal and took offense at being accommodated by gentlemen who opened doors for them in public and other small things that denoted respect.
Perhaps it is good that the males did not charge Gharbi, and prevent the massacre, for I suspect the radfems in the crowd would have registered anger at the display of chauvinistic chivalry and demanded the men in the crowd do what Gharbi told them and file out.
I have never in my life meant a radfem who did not have less sense than God gave a billygoat and more than a few of these derelicts are the meanest, malicious individuals that God ever strung gut into.
I wonder why these mouthy minions of Malthusian mental midgetry do not think before spewing their verbal diahrhea on us instead of registering their outrage on the dishonor murders, female genital mutilation, and misogyny of the muslim crowd, not to mention the gender based aborticide that is practiced worldwide, targeting baby girls.
The answer is clear, like all leftist loonies they are not only crazy but also cowardly.
T. McNamara says
These man hating, leftist loonies for get one simple fact.
A whole bunch of young men died so that they could have the right to spew their lies.
Arie Intveld says
Christopher… Your op-ed here is right on point. Every Canadian, even those who want nothing to do with firearms, should read it. I especially like your mention of personal responsibility; a necessary and worthy trait that is sadly in short supply among people today.
Ever notice how the screaming grave dancers who use each and every shooting fatality to promote their “disarm society to save lives; think of the children” mantra are the same people who never blame the gun when law enforcement shoots someone? And these are the same people who believe it’s so acceptable to murder a foetus that they twist legislators into pretzels on the pro-choice issue.
Being blinded by some virtuous agenda manifests itself as willful ignorance, psychopathic projection and hypocrisy. And it is now the norm. Being highly educated does not equate to being either intelligent or morally superior. The École Polytechnique posse, Docs4GunControl cabal and Coalition for Gun Control gang are all prime examples of this.
Christopher di Armani says
Thank you so much, Arie. I appreciate your comments immensely.
So with their logic, MTO should be held responsible for impaired drivers? Alcoholics anonymous is responsible for not reporting someone seeking assistance to authorities that they own a car? No male in the situation attempted to disarm this mentally deranged person and the police did what upon arriving? Removing any inanimate object or tool will remove the possibility of it being used to harm another person. Anyone who say, pleads mental issues for running down innocent people with a van should be considered as mentally not competent and therefor relieved of guilt? What was that movie, oh ya Minority Report. We should all be behind bars because we could potentially create a crime.
