While I’m sure there are some who will brand me as one of those tinfoil hat guys, I’m sure anyone willing to actually look at the facts will see I’m not and have never been fitted for one of those shiny (yet amazingly stylish) hats.
So here goes.
I’ve known the United States was going down the Orwellian toilet bowl for a long time, but I never ever would have believed that Texas would lead the way.
For reasons beyond my comprehension, the state that has its governor running for the Republican Party Presidential nomination (against my personal choice and eventual winner, Herman Cain) is launching a program to use unmanned military-style drones to taser people.
No, I kid you not.
As I’ve written repeatedly on this blog, there’s really no way for me to make up this garbage. It’s not that I’m not creative or imaginative enough, it’s just that I would never have the chutzpah to actually pass this trash off as fact when it’s not.
As Paul Joseph Watson reported on Alex Jones’ InfoWars.com on October 31, 2011, Montgomery County Sheriff’s office in Texas decided to kiss Homeland Security’s behind in return for a $250,000 grant so they could buy the $500,000 ShadowHawk taser drone.
I really feel for the citizens of Montgomery County. I don’t think they fully realized what a jackbooted thug they had in Montgomery County Chief Deputy Randy McDaniel until now.
McDaniel was quoted as saying:
“We look forward to utilizing it in a variety of capacities that protect our employees from harm to the extent possible and to enhance the protection to our citizens and their safety.”
There it is. The code words that say it all.
McDaniel does word it slightly differently when he says “protect our employees from harm”, but what he means, like every other spokescritter for police forces always mean when they say this stuff, is “officer safety.”
Officer Safety comes before EVERYTHING else, including saving your life from an imminent danger. If it’s not safe for the police man or woman to come to your aid, well, guess what.
You lose.
They will wait safely outside until you are dead and the killer has left before coming in to draw pretty little chalk lines around your still-warm corpse. That may sound brutal, and it may even offend some folks. Oh well. The truth has a way of doing that sometimes.
As Richard Stevens documents in his brilliant book Dial 911 and Die, in every single state in the United States, court case after court case has ruled that the police have absolutely NO DUTY to protect anyone.
Except, of course, themselves.
So much for “To Serve and Protect”.
The astute observer will note that very few police forces actually have that phrase emblazoned on their police vehicles any more. It’s false advertising.
Quoting Mr. Watson’s InfoWars.com article…
The ShadowHawk is a 50lb mini drone chopper that can be fitted with an XREP taser with the ability to fire four barbed electrodes that can be shot to a distance of 100 feet, delivering “neuromuscular incapacitation” to the victim. The drone can travel at a top speed of 70MPH and can operate for 3.5 hours over land and sea.
The purpose of the ShadowHawk drone is not to “enhance the protection to our citizens and their safety” as Montgomery County Chief Deputy Randy McDaniel so blithely states.
It’s one more Totalitarian Brick placed in the wall of the Almighty State.
George Orwell was a visionary well ahead of his time. I doubt it gave him any great pleasure, his ability to see into the dark future that lay ahead of the nations of the so-called Free World.
Freedom is a concept that has lost its lustre.
Today, if you believe in Freedom you are branded a terrorist.
Today, if you believe in Freedom, you are somehow perceived by government as unstable; someone who cannot be trusted.
The reality is, of course, that those of us who believe in Freedom truly cannot be trusted.
We cannot be trusted to suck up to the great Orwellian teet being thrust into our faces at every turn.
We cannot be trusted to blindly accept whatever lies spew forth from the mouths of government bureaucrats or elected officials.
We cannot be trusted because we will always question that authority. We will always demand to see the proof for ourselves, not the doctored photographs or “enhanced” video that shows us only what the bureaucrats want us to see.
The interests of government has never been to protect Individual Freedom. The interests of government has always and will always be to curtail our Freedom in the name of Safety and Security.
There is a great quote from, I believe it’s Ben Franklin.
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
There is no such thing as Security. If nothing else, 9/11 showed us that with crystal clarity. Anyone who is not willfully blind to the facts will see it.
Every single post-9/11 “security enhancement” implemented across the globe has done one thing and one thing only:
Turned human beings into sheep being prepared for slaughter.
Bureaucrats have been placed in charge of pretty much every avenue of “security”, and if there is one things bureaucrats know, it’s this:
The Rules are more important than People.
The Police State looms ominously in front of us. Security cameras pop up on more and more street corners every week. We’ve already seen the colossal failure of CCTV networks to prevent crime in the recent riots in London, England, but that doesn’t seem to matter.
No amount of government control over our lives seems to be enough, not for the bureaucrats.
When the federal government, through Homeland Security, intentionally offers grants to increase the militarization of our police forces, nothing good can come of it.
Governments do not have the good of the people in mind. They never do. The very best we “mere citizens” can hope for is that government won’t actively try and kill us, either through the outrageous theft of our private property or by the theft of our very lives.
The murder of former US Marine Jose Guerena at the hands of Pima County SWAT jumps to the forefront of my mind…
The more we militarize our police forces, the more we build this wall between us cops and them civilians, the less trust we civilians will have in our police.
When police are more concerned about the size of their budgets than in actually preventing crime, we are in a world of danger beyond anything we can begin to imagine.
We need look back no further than the past century to see all the neon billboards screaming at us, of course.
The 20th century saw more people murdered by their own governments than in the rest of human history combined.
That should shock and horrify every living soul on Planet Earth.
That it does not shows you just how effective big government has been at getting people to buy into the lie…
‘We’re from the government and we’re here to help you.”
